Eduardo L. Rivera Open Studio

June 8, 2023
6 - 8pm
TILT Institute Artist Lab
Free To The Public

Throughout the last decade, Eduardo L Rivera has made images of his family and community to contemplate the personal and political histories that ripple through his childhood home near the United States and Mexico border. His photographs depict fragments of the quotidian and borrow from visual traditions such as portraiture, still-life, and landscape to negotiate the poetics held in the everyday. Through his frequent return to photographing these domestic and arid environments, he considers the significance of light and notions of time and belonging as threads woven throughout the fabric of his work. Rivera uses medium and large format cameras to deepen and extend his engagement with the people and places he photographs. During his residency at TILT, he is working on synthesizing the archive into a book. Visitors are invited to experience a glimpse of his process on display in the TILT Artist Lab through his photographs, mock-ups, and expertise in book binding.

Artist In Residence Program

TILT’s AIR Program provides support to talented, self-directed, committed artists who are advancing contemporary photography by incorporating innovative approaches to making in their practice and engaging with subject material that is grounded in a programmatic framework. Participants receive a stipend, access to high-end digital facilities/equipment, and the opportunity to share their work with the public. Each year two artists from the Philadelphia metropolitan area and 2 artists whose work addresses diversity, equity, justice and inclusion are selected by TILT team members.
