Sonia Kahlon Artist Talk

Certificate Program Capstone Talk

March 22, 2022
7 PM EST

Join us for Sonia Kahlon’s online talk about her current series of surreal self portraits, Through Her Eyes, currently on exhibit in TILT’s project space.

I explore the connection with our immediate surroundings both urban and rural. They are both complex ecosystems that breathe, decay, feed, and communicate through a series of elaborate signals. The goal of these ecosystems is to achieve balance and harmony between all of their inhabitants but in very different ways. Each collection of images is part of a larger narrative belonging to a dark fairy tale.

My intention is to create images where the subject relates to their landscape in a surprising and whimsical way. In the context of this relationship, I am striving to examine some of my personal struggles and realizations through visual storytelling. My images explore mental health and addiction struggles with the aim of providing understanding and removing the stigma from those suffering. – Sonia Kahlon
