What are some of the additional benefits to being in the certificate program?

• Membership: Each student automatically becomes a general member of PPAC, which has additional membership benefits.
• Lab: Each student will receive two free hours a week in the lab to print, scan, or use the computers (consumables such as ink and paper will be an additional cost). Hours not used during the week will be lost at the end of the week. Hours in the lab do not accumulate.
• Photo Book Library: Students who graduate from the program will automatically be accepted to display their completed photo book in our library for visitors to see.
• Shooting Studio: Only students enrolled in the certificate program will be able to schedule time to use the classroom as a shooting studio (depends on availability).

How do I apply to the certificate program?

Students can apply to the program year-round. There will be an info session scheduled every fall and spring for individuals who would like to learn more and ask questions. Attendance for the info session is not required. Students applying will have to fill out an application. There is no selection process, but we do want to know more about your goals and expectations.

Can I receive credit for previous course work I have taken at PPAC?

Yes! If you have been taking classes with us and would like to use that experience towards receiving the certificate we can prorate the tuition to reflect your previous investment. Please contact Josh Brilliant (josh@philaphotoarts.org) to set up a meeting to discuss payment options.

I have never taken a class at PPAC. Can I decide if I would like to do the certificate program after I take my first class?

Sure! We understand that your goals might not line up perfectly with what we offer. You can wait to sign up for the certificate until after you complete Photography I: The Essentials, if you wish. Your tuition will be prorated for the cost of the single class.

Can I audit a class before I decide to enroll in the program or class?

No, unfortunately, we can only accommodate students who are enrolled in the course.

What can I expect from obtaining a Contemporary Practices Photography Certificate from the Philadelphia Photo Arts Center?

The Contemporary Practices Photography Certificate ensures potential clients, employers, and collaborators that you have obtained the technical, conceptual, and aesthetic skills in photography that will make you a stronger candidate. It also provides artists with the framework to explore their artistic potential through a professionally guided program. Established artists and professionals in the field will provide students the tools, motivation, and guidance to confidently pursue their goals as an artist and photographer. The certificate allows students to pursue their dream with seriousness, while adding a professional resource to their resume.
