Down a Stream - Holding III (2020)
Down a Stream explores the process of healing from trauma through reenactments of mind-body interventions. Jenica attended multiple healing sessions in New York City, ranging from religious and spiritual practices, such as the laying of hands and hypno-therapy. For this project, she casted actors as stand-ins to mirror her experience in these various sessions. She directed the participants to evoke a trance-like state. A world made of familiar spaces and gestures is transformed into strange encounters with themes of visual entrapment and an undercurrent of dysphoria.
