Colette Fu’s 14 x 22 ft. pop up book, Tao Hua Yuan Ji, is inspired by a Jin Dynasty tale of a traveler who came upon an isolated valley beyond a cave filled with blossoming peach trees. The villagers in the valley lived an ideal, harmonic life with nature and each other. To the Chinese, this story is a metaphor for Utopia, and the peach blossom symbolizes luck, love, longevity, and to some—immortality.
Colette will construct the book inside PPAC’s gallery. Visitors can watch the book’s creation from Sept 14 – Oct 11. PPAC will host a Meet the Artist event, when Colette will talk about her grand book and answer your questions, Sept 22, 2 – 3:30 PM.
On Oct 12, 6:30 PM, Tao Hua Yuan Ji will be opened in public for the first time, followed by a reception and an official measuring ceremony for the Guinness Book of World Records.
