Youth Outreach

TILT Institute believes in giving direct voice and agency to Philadelphia’s youth, empowering them to tell their own stories and share their unique lived experiences through the power of image-making.  

Through photography, visual literacy, and arts education, young people can discover new ways of thinking (or understanding the world) both critically and creatively. In a digital world where images communicate as much as words, these skills are essential now more than ever.

TILT’s youth education programs are unique in their ability to:

• • Improve visual, digital, and media literacy 
  • Create synergy between art and language. And in turn, improve educational outcomes
  • Gain important technical skills in: camera usage, Adobe software, lighting equipment, and printing
  • Give students the power to self-direct their creative projects with support from TILT’s instructors
  • Offer opportunities for students to meet and learn from TILT’s artists-in-residence
