Thursday Night Photo Talk w/ Odette England and Mark Alice Durant

Artist Odette England and publisher Mark Alice Durant will join in conversation about England’s forthcoming monograph Dairy Character, published by Saint Lucy books, launching in September.

Odette England’s work has shown in more than 100 solo, two-person, and group exhibitions worldwide. For 2021, Odette is a Light Work Artist in Residence; a recipient of the Silver Eye Center for Photography Fellowship and a nominee for the Prix Pictet, the world’s leading prize for photography and sustainability. She has won numerous grants and awards including the CENTER $5,000 Project Launch Award; two grants from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation; and the 2020 Anonymous Was a Woman grant. Her first collaborative monograph with fellow artist Jennifer Garza-Cuen will be published by Radius Books this month, called Past Paper Present Marks. Odette’s critically-acclaimed edited volume Keeper of the Hearth was published by Schilt Publishing in 2020 and named a Photobook of the Year by LensCulture, American Suburb X, The Luupe, What Will You Remember and Lenscratch.

Mark Alice Durant is an artist, writer, editor, and publisher of Saint Lucy Books. His essays have appeared in numerous journals such as Art in America, Aperture, Dear Dave, FOAM Magazine, Photograph, and many catalogs, monographs and anthologies, including Rania Matar: She, Vik Muniz: Seeing is Believing, Jimmie Durham, Marco Breuer: Early Recordings, and The Passionate Camera: Photography and Bodies of Desire. He was co-curator and co-author of Blur of the Otherworldly: Contemporary Art, Technology and the Paranormal. He is author of Robert Heinecken: A Material History; his most recent book is 27 Contexts: An Anecdotal History in Photography.
