Philly Photo Day: Call For Submissions

On Monday, April 6, TILT opens submissions for Philly Photo Day: How We Stay Free, a special week-long event transforming Philadelphia into a site of creative inspiration. The annual event returns with a new theme inspired by the nation’s Semiquincentennial, inviting tourists or residents with a camera or smartphone to capture images of Philadelphia that respond to the prompt, “How do we stay free?” Participants must submit their photos online by April 12 for inclusion in the Philly Photo Day exhibition, which will be displayed for free to the public in TILT’s Project Gallery, located in The Crane Arts Building, from May 13 to June 27.

Philly Photo Day: How We Stay Free welcomes all to share their vision of the city’s communities as they work to respond to the prompt for this year’s event. Participants are invited to share a photo in response to the prompt, which could be an explicit act of activism, a social gathering, or an encounter with nature

Details for Philly Photo Day Submissions:

• Philly Photo Day encourages anyone with a camera or smartphone to be an artist – no matter their experience with photography.
• Take a photo in Philadelphia that responds to the prompt “How we stay free?” using a camera or smartphone and submit it any time between April 6 and 12. Participants can show simple acts of freedom that sustain them, such as participating in a peaceful protest, engaging with their religion, or attending a public gathering. They can also capture sights and symbols of freedom found throughout Philadelphia, including the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, or murals dedicated to historic local activists like W.E.B. Du Bois.
• Photos should be submitted as a JPEG file. TILT will open a submittable portal on April 6, which will close on April 12 at 11:59 p.m.
• TILT reserves the right to decline to exhibit any image for any reason. Any offensive or hate-filled images will be declined.
