TILT Artist Lab

The Open Studio is the public’s opportunity to meet TILT’s artists-in-residence and learn more about their artistic practices. Visit our Artist Lab to meet Dorcas Tang, who is the artist-in-residence at TILT for the month of June. During their residency, Tang will work on Love Me Long Time (LMLT, 2021 – ongoing), an audiovisual project that examines overlapping themes of desire, intimacy, and Asian identity through portraits and oral interviews with Asian diasporic women and nonbinary people. Through this project they hope to challenge the imbalanced power dynamics between the photographer and subject by holding space for active collaboration, maintaining ongoing dialogue, and renegotiating narrative outcomes. Tang is facilitating a series of reading groups with local artist, Alina Wang, at Asian Arts Initiative. To find out more information about the program, click HERE.
Dorcas Tang 邓佳颖 (she/they) is a third-generation Malaysian-Chinese artist based on unceded Gadigal land (Sydney, Australia). They are interested in the intersections of photography, history, and archival silences. As a daughter of the Chinese diaspora, they center care for their communities while grappling with the intrinsic violence of the camera and archival practices. They hope their work offers a catalyst for conversation, fermenting open-ended questions and ambiguous truths.
